Utsav 2017: Community Briefing

Wednesday 31st May marked the opening of the Ustav: Year of South Asian Culture 2017 initiative with its Community Briefing event. Hosted at the Library of Birmingham, the Book Rotunda welcomed cultural practitioners and entertainers to learn about the campaign.

The event began with a definition of what Utsav is followed by how communities can get involved, before handing over to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham.  The Lord Mayor then elaborated on Birmingham’s opportunity to show the city’s rich diversity.  On that note, we showcased dance, singing and poetry performances paused in between with talks on how the council can help fund activities like street parties.

The evening came to its finale on the library’s garden terrace with refreshments and informal mingling overlooking the city’s Spring view.
